William A. Kopanski, 96, of South Bend, passed away Monday January 30, 2012, in Michiana Health and Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka.

He was born on August 26, 1915, to the late Vance and Pauline (Talentowski) Kopanski. On August 13, 1938, he married Irene Milcarek, who preceded him in death on August 2, 1992. On June 17, 1995, he married Viola (Sayer) Miller, who survivies.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Phil) Gaarenstroom of Charleston WV; his son, Daniel (Laura) Kopanski of Pendleton, IN; a step-daughter, Susan (Craig) Lee of Honolulu, HI; a step-son, Kenneth S. (Kathleen) Miller of Ada, MI; five grandchildren, Amanda Gaarenstroom of Charleston, Andy (Lorri Norris) Kopanski of Pendleton, Ann Marie (John) Georgesen of Maineville, OH, Angela (Alex) Runko of Kensington, MD and Eric Gaarenstroom of Charleston, WV; seven step-grandchildren, Erin L. (Lloyd) Shupe of Grand Rapids, MI, Caitlin A. and Alicia J. Miller, both of Ada, MI, Nicolas W. and Taylor K. Lee, both of Honolulu and Luke and Patrick Hanlin, both of Boston, MA; four great-grandchildren, John William and Daniel Steven Georgesen of Maineville, OH, Andrea Kopanski of Pendleton, IN and Bennett Runko of Kensington, MD; a brother, Mike (Julie) Kopanski of Garfield Heights, OH; a half-sister, Kristine Tallison of North Liberty, IN; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Mr. Kopanski was a self-employed farmer and owner of Bill's Gravel Pit in North Liberty, IN.

He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of NRA and a member of the Isaac Walton League.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday February 11, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church (family and friends to meet directly at church), with entombment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Kaniewski Funeral Homes, South Bend, is handling the arrangements.
