D. Joy Griffin, 78, of South Bend, Indiana passed away suddenly, Friday, February 14, 2014.

Joy was born June 30, 1935, in St. Louis, MO, to John & Dolores (Ruzicka) Cheely.
On April 14, 1956, Joy married Robert Griffin who preceded her in death on October 2, 1998.
Joy is survived by her children, Tim (Diane) Griffin of South Bend, IN, Bobby (Shelly) Griffin of Phoenix, AZ, Nancy (Ron) Gordon of Elkhart, IN, Peggy (Bruce) Bere of Palos Park, IL, Amy (Jay) Alexander of Houston, TX; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Horndasch of Arlington Heights, IL, Susan (Jay) Mills of Buffalo Grove, IL; & a brother, John (Leslie) Cheely of Phoenix, AZ.

Joy graduated from Nerinx Hall High School, St. Louis, MO, in 1953, was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, a Eucharistic Minister, & was involved in many volunteer organizations.

Visitation 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014, Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
