Sister Margaret André (Patricia Carol Waechter), C.S.C. died at Saint Mary's Convent after many years as a Sister of the Holy Cross and gifted organist, church musician, and director of liturgy and leadership training. Sister was a living "Alleluia," projecting joy and energy, embracing youth, college students, and adults. Originally from Detroit, Sister spent most of her years in Indiana in elementary and secondary education in Michigan City, Gary, and South Bend. She served the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend training liturgical music ministers and later was the director of liturgy for Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters in Huntington. Her talents took her also to a parish in Spokane, Washington and a university community in Austin, Texas. Sister served stints at the Saint Mary's motherhouse in formation work and apostolic services in hospitals in California, and locally, in South Bend, Indiana at Saint Joseph's Medical Center. In 2007 Sister Margaret André retired under California skies at Saint Catherine by the Sea, Ventura where the sisters have missed her since she moved in 2015 to Saint Mary's. Her bright eyes and broad smile were captured, not only in photos, but in life. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or online at wwwcscsisters.org where you can read more about Sister.
