Norma K. Scholl, 92, of Granger (formerly of South Bend) passed away on Saturday December 31, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living, Granger. She was born on March 5, 1924, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Aaron and Catherine (Stoyle) Hopkins. She worked for Ohio Casualty Insurance Company in Pittsburgh, where she first met Carl Scholl. On July 19, 1947, as Norma Hopkins, she married Carl, who preceded her in death in 2009. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Aaron, Daniel and William Hopkins; and by three sisters, Ethel Clark, Nancy Davies and Dorothy Wasieleski. She is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Palmer of Savannah, GA. Norma is also survived by her daughter, Kathy (Rick) McArdle of Palm Coast, FL; four sons, Carl (Debbie) of South Bend, Bill (Julie) Scholl of Cedarburg, WI, David (Valerie) Scholl of Mason, OH and Tom Scholl of Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren: Timothy, Carly, Katherine, Ava, Anna Scholl, Christine (Tyler) Capps, Justin (Trella), Aaron (Nichole) Scholl, Michael (Abby), Stefanie, Kelly Scholl; Taylor, Alyssa and Steven Scholl ; six great-grandchildren; Payton, Reese, Hudson, Palmer, Ainsley Scholl and Mackenzie Capps. Norma was defined by her strong faith and was a devoted and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Family was always her highest priority, instilling strong values that would influence and sustain her children and their families throughout their spiritual, personal lives and professional endeavors. She was a longtime parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she was involved in a number of church organizations including Altar and Rosary Society and St. Joseph County Right to Life. She spent countless hours following her children's school and sports activities and was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday January 2, 2017 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday January 3, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Women's Care Center or to Corpus Christi Church. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many outstanding care givers at Brookdale Granger, who helped make the last three years of Norma's life both meaningful and rewarding.
