South Bend - Michael Sacchini, 98, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2015, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, peacefully with his son at his side. He was born on November 18, 1916, in Logansport, IN, to the late Pasquale and Matilda (Frisoni) Sacchini. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Henry and Carolyn "Snookie" Ehlert; four sisters and five brothers. Michael is survived by his son, Michael (Barb) Sacchini of South Bend; three grandchildren, Dr. Tara (Tony) Svatos of Granger, Daniel (Dea) Sacchini of Spring, TX and Erik Hurwick of Indianapolis, IN; a son-in-law, Larry Ehlert of Naples, FL; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Firmani and sister-in-law, Maxine Shivley, both of Logansport, IN; by four great-grandchildren, Helen and Michael Svatos and Christian and Alexis Sacchini; his former wife, Helen Shivley; a very dear friend, Marguertie Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael served with the Civilian Conservation Corps, when he was a young man and helped build the Pokagon State Park. He loved his family, enjoyed going to Notre Dame football games and loved golf. He was a quiet, polite, loving and caring man, who had a healthy and happy life. Everyone loved him and may he rest in peace! A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 pm Tuesday May 26, 2015, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where friends may visit for 2 hours prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Great Lakes Division, Northwest Indiana Office, 130 Red Coach Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
