Granger, IN- James A. Chrzan, 82, of Granger, IN, passed away at 7:29 p.m. Thursday October 1, 2015 in Dujarie House at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN.

Jim was born on January 16, 1933 to the late Elijah "Chick" and Antoinette (Grabarz) Chrzan in Niles, MI. He attended Niles High School, spent his freshman year of college at Central Michigan before transferring to Purdue University where he graduated in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then began his 40 year journey with the same company, Bendix, which evolved to Allied Signal and eventually Honeywell. He held various positions during this time and in addition to South Bend, lived in San Diego, CA and Jacksonville, FL.

On June 17th 1967 he married Carolyn Bujeker who he first saw at O'Hare Airport returning from a business trip. She was a stewardess for United Airlines at the time and Jim, being the gentleman he was, offered to carry her suitcase but she declined. Fate would play a role, a few short weeks later he spotted Carlee at a singles gathering and they danced to Frank Sinatra's, Strangers in the Night. The rest is history.

Jim put his heart and spirit into the things that mattered most: his faith, family, career and hobbies. He leaves a legacy of which to be proud; one of integrity, compassion, loyalty and gentle strength.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Dujarie House for the exceptional care and love they gave to Jim and his family. There are too many people at Dujarie who came into Jim's life to name here. The team was truly a blessing. Also, to Dr. Sergio Sales of Beacon E. Blair Medical Group for his warmth, care and compassion throughout Jim's stay and in his final hours.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Carolyn, daughter, Nicole Carr of Billings, MT, a son Jeff of New York City, NY and granddaughters, Madison, Harper and Grace Carr of Billings, MT and a sister, Marilyn Chrzan of South Bend.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday October 5, 2015 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday October 6, 2015, with Father Stephen Lacroix C.S.C officiating . Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery.
