Donald Louis Martin, Sr., 72, of South Bend, passed away on Tuesday January 3, 2017 at Trail Point Village, South Bend. He was born on January 7, 1944, in South Bend, to the late Charles R. and Lucille D. (Harden) Martin. Donald graduated in 1961 from St. Joseph High School and went in to the Army and served his country in Vietnam from 1966-1968. After the military he went on to work as an Expediter for Sibley's Machine and Foundry. He enjoyed reading, sports and fishing. Donald is survived by his son, Donald L. Martin, Jr. of Mishawaka, IN; three grandchildren, Ryan Martin of Great Lakes, IL, Jena Nagy of WI and Austin Martin of Elkhart, IN; a great-granddaughter, Lilah June Nagy of WI; a sister, Anita (Leo) Goepfrich of Traverse City, MI; two brothers, Dick (Marian) Martin of Highland Heights, OH and James Martin of South Bend; and by a brother-in-law, John Rucano of South Bend. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Cheri Rucano. Per his wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. He will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery privately. Kaniewski Funeral Homes is handling the arrangements.
